Recently – out of the blue – and without specifically thinking about it – I adopted the word “stuff” as my favourite word. I’ve never had a favourite word before, and it feels quite good to have an authentic favourite word.
Why do I like it? Two reasons. Versatility and how it feels to say. You can say ’stuff’ in the same way as you can swear and so it can feel like a swear word. Mostly, however, it’s the versatility of the word.
But first some facts:
According to a Google search, there are about 519,000,000 sites which use the word ’stuff’. More specifically, there are 90,600,000 sites in which the domain name includes the word ’stuff’.
In March this year, over 9,000,000 searches were entered into Google using the word ’stuff’ and the average monthly global figure for the number of searches with the word ’stuff’ included is a whopping 30,400,000.
In fact, last month alone the word ’stuff’ was typed – all by itself with no other words – into the Google search field just over 4,000,000 times. Just think about that. People like you and me, sat down at their computer and just typed the word “stuff” into Google and hit ’search’.
And if you want to advertise on that word, you can expect to pay an average of USD1.06 per click.
Here’s how I use the word – in all it’s versatility.
“I’m getting some stuff.”
“Stuff it in there.”
“What’s that stuff?”
In answer to the question, “What are you doing” you can say “Stuff”.
If you’re really tired, “I’m stuffed”
And if you’re cross, “Get STUUUUFFFFED”
I’m also thinking of using it in the name of my program about turning possibility into actuality, or what I call P2A.
P2A is represented by 7 steps – and these steps are essential for anyone to make anything happen. I’ll be putting up a video of a talk I did on this recently, so I wont give the game away just yet. Suffice to say that people who make stuff happen are following these 7 steps.
So, the ‘draft’ name of this program so far is P2A: Make Stuff Happen. I like it. And at about US$1 per click I think I’ll be able to drive a bit of paid traffic to this program – especially if I get some advice from Tania Taylor at AgencyXYZ.
Stay tuned for some more stuff on stuff.

Brilliant! There’s some good stuff in that post. I’ve never really given the word that much thought until now.
Although, knowing stats like that sounds a bit geeky… but interesting all the same
Hey – I could well be the coolest geek in town! (or is that an oxymoron?)
