Hi all,
One of the products I’m launching ‘as I write’ is a book I’ve created with my son, Harley. The book is called The Perfect Home Espresso and it’s a book about how to make espresso at home using a home espresso machine.
Now, there’s some background you should be aware of. First, I’m a coffee snob. Second, Harley has been making coffee with me since he was one. By the time he was four he could make a better coffee than most and do it all himself, except for steaming the milk.
By the time he was five, he was doing it all himself, and I simply took a photograph of each and everystep and used his words to describe what was going on in each photo. I also added my own text as [notes].
I created the book using iPhoto on my mac and then generated a PDF version of the book for sale. So, product creation was really quite straightforward.
We’re donating the sales from the book to Make-A-Wish Australia and the website is www.perfecthomeespresso.com
I first created the website using iWeb – but then discovered that iWeb produces websites that aren’t really SEO friendly. So, I re-did the website using another simple website builder that I have access to.
I recorded a video sales message which includes a story of how I became a coffee snob, how Harley came to create the book with me, and how we’re raising money for charity. I edited the video using iMovie, again on my mac and uploaded the video to YouTube. From there, I took the html code from the YouTube video and embedded it into the website.
I also put another video on the main sales page – a video of Harley presenting ‘how to set up an online business’ to his kindergarten class for ‘news’. He modelled his talk from Brett McFall’s book, How To Make Money While You Sleep.
I also set up a blog on the website, and am using this to blog about the progress of the ‘plan’ – but I’m also using it to help with the Google rankings for the site. In fact, I’ll put a link to the site right here for the purpose of demonstrating this technique. So, go and look at www.perfecthomeespresso.com/blog to read about how the book plans are progressing.
What I wanted to show you here was:
1. How easy it is to create a product out of an everyday experience
2. That I just used standard digital video, edited on standard software and uploaded to a free service, YouTube, to create the videos for the sales page.
3. That I’m using blogs to write about the book and it’s launch and am including backlinks to the main book website to help increase Google rankings.
After only a few days of launching the book website, I have been able to get ranked on the first page of Google for the keywords – perfect home espresso – and this is out of about 800,000 pages. Not to bad.
So, now I’m after even better rankings with more competitive words like ‘espresso’, ‘coffee’, etc.
Blog’s are only one way to increase google rankings. In order to find out more about the techniques and strategies I used to rank the website so highly and so quickly, I want you to leave your name and email address in the form below, and then I’ll add you to the group of friends and colleagues who I freely share all that stuff with.
